When You Can’t Do It All

Exodus 24:1-8
GREAT TRUTH: We like to think that we can build a portfolio of good works that will impress God with our obedience – this is the mentality of sinful humanity. Thankfully, God has provided His Son knowing we’ll never be able to save ourselves by trying to keep all of His laws.
In our journey through the word, we’re about to enter the section of Scripture that concerns itself with the building of the tabernacle. You might be thinking this is time for a vacation from church, but I want to challenge you to see how the story of the tabernacle is really an amazing depiction of our intimacy with Jesus.
Just before the construction of the tabernacle is a story that really illustrates our story. The people tell Moses they’ll do anything and everything God commands them, so Moses builds an altar. Then it gets repeated – “we’ll do it all” and Moses speaks of the blood. That’s us – trying to do it all. And that’s God – offering the blood of His Son.
Titus 3:3-7 spells out these truths for us in relationship to Christ… not by our works of righteousness, but by the washing of Christ’s blood and regeneration.
OUR PLAN… I’ll Do It All For You God
I’ll keep every rule. (the thou shalt not’s)
I’ll keep every obligation. (the thou shalt’s)
GOD’S PLAN… No, I’ll Do It All For You
Jesus “tabernacled” among us and died as our sacrifice because we can’t do it all – we won’t do it all. But He did it all. He kept every point and paid the full price of my sin. Now I must simply trust Him.
