ONE GREAT TRUTH: Deceitfulness is not acceptable when God’s nature and Word are composed of 100% truth. Truth is countercultural and life-changing.

We live in a culture of lying… 91% of Americans admit to lying on a regular basis. We expect our political leaders to lie to get into office and we often simply vote for the one whom we think has lied the least to get where he is.

A BIBLICAL SURVEY OF DISHONESTY…

1. In Genesis, Satan told Eve a lie and humankind has been following His example since.
2. The Bible is a history book on lying and conspiracy, including the false witnesses against Jesus on the cross.
3. Satan is said to be the inventor of lies and the father of them in John 8:44.
4. Revelation 21:8 tells us that liars will be sent to the lake of fire.

We must choose between being false witnesses and faithful witnesses.

HOW TO BE A FALSE WITNESS…

Perjury, hypocrisy, slander, gossip, insinuation, and breaking our promises/vows to others, as well as keeping sin alive but hidden in the shadows are all ways that we deceive others. Lying has been defined as when we purposely deceive others – when it’s our intent to deceive for our own good and/or to the harm of someone else.

HOW TO BE A FAITHFUL WITNESS…

1. Honor the absolute truth of God’s Word. (John 17:17)
2. Speak the truth to others. (Ephesians 4:15, 25)
3. Be a promise keeper.
